Another Planning Consent
Planning consent has been granted for a new recycling site in Kings Worthy, Hampshire. The 6.2-acre site, to be developed by Ecogen, will provide a new 60,000ft² facility with high security document shredding, which will be the largest dedicated waste cardboard, paper and plastic recycling facilities in Hampshire.
SMA were very pleased to assist with the preparation of the Transport Assessment and tracking drawings for the site.
Inspiring the next Generation of Engineers
Female employees from SMA (Kate, Claire and Alice) have enjoyed going back to school this month, by holding a ‘Girls in Engineering’ event at both Little Heath School and Denefield School in Reading. Both events were very well received by the students and staff.
Hoping to inspire the future students into careers in Engineering, discussions centred on personal experiences in the ‘world of engineering’ from education background to laughs and challenges faced in the workplace on particular projects.
Students were then tasked with a Masterplanning exercise, to plan their own Towns with houses, shops, employment, health services and transport links whilst also considering their source of energy to power their Town. Students also had to consider constraints, such as building on the floodplain and protecting Ancient Woodland. One team even wanted a horse riding stable as their leisure pursuit in their particular Town.
After a short break we challenged the students to build the tallest Giraffe out of straws, masking tape and the, all important, googly eyes. Points were awarded for the tallest Giraffe and the most realistic looking Giraffe. The tallest winning Giraffe at Little Heath School was Gerome.
