Minerals and Waste

Minerals and waste operations in the UK are subject to EC, National and Local Government and Environment Agency regulations, monitoring and enforcement procedures. Minerals extraction and waste management projects are technically complex, environmentally sensitive and their successful implementation requires input from a multi-disciplinary professional team.

SMA has a successful track record of working with mineral and waste operators in the UK, providing full engineering support and technical assistance through the planning and approvals process for quarrying restoration, redevelopment, and waste disposal and management projects.

The range of services provided, often in the context of an Environmental Statement for Minerals Planning, ROMP or PPIC Applications, include traffic impact, noise and air assessments, hydrological and hydro geological studies, 3D ground modelling, planning and design of highways, civil and structural engineering works, HGV routeing agreements, Green Travel Plans for employees and liaison with the office of minerals, highway, water and environmental approving authorities. Where required, expert witnesses present evidence on technical issues at public inquiry and appeals.
