Current Positions Available:

Due to an expanding workload, we are currently looking to recruit a Senior Drainage Engineer. We offer a competitive salary and flexible benefits package, which includes contributory pension and a discretionary bonus scheme. Stuart Michael Associates is an independent consultancy practice that was established in 1988 and has become one of the UK’s top 100 engineering consultants. We provide effective civil design solutions and robust technical advice to our clients within the private and public sector.

Type of contract: Permanent – Full Time

Summary of the broad purpose of the position and its responsibilities/duties:
  • To contribute towards the development of high levels of drainage performance, reliability and quality.
  • Undertake Flood Risk Assessments and demonstrate a thorough understanding of current assessment techniques.
  • Produce technical reports efficiently and accurately.
  • Be able to demonstrate proficiency with the assessment, design and specification of highway, surface and foul water drainage systems for residential and commercial development proposals.
  • Be able to demonstrate proficiency with the design and specification of sustainable drainage systems to current design standards.
  • Be able to demonstrate a proficiency with the design and specification of both adoptable and private sewerage pumping stations.
  • Undertake both 1D and 2D Hydraulic modelling utilising a variety of different software.
  • Be able to contribute towards the preparation and submission of Section 104 and 106 agreements.
  • Disseminate knowledge to junior members of staff
Capabilities and Qualifications:
  • Working towards chartered status of either ICE or CIWEM.
  • Demonstrate a thorough working knowledge of current technical standards and guidance.
  • Have experience of the preparation and submission of Section 98 and Section 185 applications.
  • Have experience of the preparation of evidence for planning appeals and public enquiries.
  • The ideal candidate will have over 5 years’ experience in a similar role.
Must be able to demonstrate a broad use/experience of the following software packages:
  • Micro Drainage
  • AutoCAD (including Map and Civils 3D)
  • PDS
  • HEC-RAS (v.5.03)
  • Flood Modeller Pro
  • Microsoft Office
