Infrastructure Design
SMA prepared the conceptual designs and obtained FIA and RACMSA approval for circuit improvement works at Copse Corner and the Complex on the Grand Prix Circuit at Silverstone. These works included the complete redesign of the northern part of the circuit, requiring the extension of a tunnel beneath Pit Straight and new runoff areas. The wearing course around the whole of the Grand Prix track was re-laid to a tolerance of ± 3mm. SMA was responsible for the detailed design for all of these works and also prepared the Specification, bill of quantities, let the contract and carried out site supervision on behalf of the client.
Other projects at Silverstone included the design of the Rally Sprint Circuit used as a special stage in the RAC Rally of Great Britain, safety improvements to Club Corner, Stowe, the Vale, Abbey, Becketts and on the national and international circuits.
